Battle is the closest thing to feeling Lohengrin has right now.
He never thought he would think this but the Knight is grateful for the Raven sending his crows on such an audacious attack at the borders of the kingdom. For the first time in what feels like forever, he can lose himself in the fight.
He knows, with what might be a faint twinge resembling sadness, that he won't die here. The marks Fakir showed him can only come from one foe. But he still relishes the freedom that comes with walking the razor-fine line between life and death.
At the end of it, he and Siegfried have lost no ground but neither is happy.
"Lohengrin?"
"My liege," the Knight answers as he cleans his sword.
The Prince exhales through his nose and presses with, "What is troubling you?"
"Nothing."
It's sort of the truth.
"Then what isn't troubling you?"
"I don't know."
"You have lost something, Lohengrin," Siegfried continues, the ever so slight rise in the pitch of his voice ringing out against the other man's near-monotone. "Something that you came back with."
The Knight doesn't reply to this, carefully sheathing his sword.
"My friend, if you need anything, anything at all..." the Prince tries but can't find a way to finish that.
"I don't know," Lohengrin repeats.
And that's all that's said between the pair, the one lost in his shield from the world leading his Prince back to the castle.
