The Reunion

The Prince wasn't expecting his Knight to look so melancholy upon his return. Indeed, he isn't sure he's ever seen Lohengrin this upset in all the time they've known each other. He had heard the whispers from the swans speaking of tragedy, but for Lohengrin to be so affected.
"What has happened?"
Returning from Milliways has brought the faded feelings back in full force and shock. Lohengrin knew deep down that he would have no mask in front of Siegfried, nor did he really want one. But he still had to meet him, try to relate the events without everything they are to the Knight.
But it's when the Prince catches a gleam of gold on the Knight's hand that he begins to frown.
Lohengrin closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and states clearer than he thought he was capable, "I failed."
