It was gradual but the wave of challengers slowly ebbed away. The days were calm, as if no corner or shadow held any threat.

And it vexed Lohengrin.

"I think you might be worrying too much, my Knight," Elsa tells him as they walked arm in arm through the courtyard.

"I must keep my guard up," he insists. "I'll not be lulled by the eye of the storm, my dear."

"All the more reason not to waste the time we have together before the tempest returns."

His hand slips to hers and he links their fingers together, giving a sigh through his nose. While it's difficult to argue with her logic, it's also difficult to relax when he knows the storm could collapse in on them at any moment.

"Have you resigned yourself to a life of tumult, Elsa?" he queries.

"I would think you would know, my Knight, that life is tumult. I might as well enjoy what moments I have."

Elsa tugs their joined hands up in a gentle swing. He gives her hand a squeeze.

"I think you might be my only friend," Elsa admits. "My sole comfort."

The Knight stops and tugs the Lady a bit closer to him, leaning his forehead against hers.

"The hardships will pass," he says. "There will be more for you than just strife and false peace."

Elsa presses her free hand to his chest. Lohengrin covers her fingers with his own, wishing that he could occasionally have the same mindset as his Lady when it comes to these moments of tranquility.
